Lazarus

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

I checked out Lazarus again today. It seems like it’s comming along nicely, and maybe even mature enough to use for some projects. Of course, there are some bugs, like widgets aren’t themed along with the rest of Gtk, so it looks really ugly. Maybe it’ll be mature enough to use and I can leave C and C++ behind :P.

Welcome to Wordpress!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

It’s my new blogging software, Wordpress! It seems really nice and seems to work well. Timezones even seem work…no I wasn’t up at 3:30AM posting like some of my entries with bBlog stated!. Now, I just need to make myself a template and write something!
Enjoy!

I’ve been learning how to program in KDE with C++ lately. KDE has a very nice API (much nicer than GTK+/Gnome, I think, anyway). C++ is also a nice language, if you can learn it. All the C++ books at the library are checked out, so I’ve been learning by example and pestering Brian when I need help (hehe, sorry Brian).

I’ve got myself some new hosting for my collection of websites–D4Hosting (tell ‘em Taj sent ‘ya, I’ve got a reputation around there!). They seem pretty good and very flexable, easy to work with for people with special requirements, etc. Hopefully I’ll get the SSL thing straightened out soon.

‘Neways, have fun and stay tuned!

Sorry

Sorry for the lack of updates…I’ve been busy learning how to program with KDE and haven’t had a chance to work on importing my posts. Sorry! I’ll get WordPress up soon.

Who not to host with

Tuesday, July 6th, 2004

Stay as far away from SupremeServer as you can. Their hosting sucks and costs $$$ if you exceed their usages. Anybody know of any good hosting companies with rollover bandwidth?
Thanks…

Playing with new blog software…

Tuesday, July 6th, 2004

I’ve been messing with Wordpress lately. It seems really nice and mature…haven’t found any bugs (yet!). I’m writing an import tool to get all the bBlog posts.

You’ll see it in a day or two.

Looking for new Blog Software

Saturday, July 3rd, 2004

I’m getting tired of bBlog and it’s time zones problems (looks like posts were made way before they actually where). Does anybody know of any other good PHP blogging systems? Post a comment if so.
Thanks!

Dutch Parliament Throws out Software Patents

Friday, July 2nd, 2004

From Slashdot:

Sanity writes “On May 18th, by a thin majority, the European Council of Ministers voted in favor of throwing out the European Parliament’s efforts to keep software patents out of Europe. According to an FFII press release, the Dutch Parliament yesterday voted to change its Minister’s vote, which was in favor, to an abstension. This is an unprecidented move and a great coup for those fighting against software patents, never before has a country reversed a vote in this manner. While this is not sufficient to reverse the decision of the Council of Ministers, it does pave the way for other countries, many of which were pressured into an affirmative vote, to do the same. Now is the time for citizens of the EU to put pressure on their national governments to follow the Dutch lead.”

Yay! Hopefully the rest of the EU will follow suite.

Free CA Nonprofit!

Friday, July 2nd, 2004

Finally, some common sense! No longer will you have to pay big bucks to have a company create a small text file!
Non-profit CAcert Inc (based in AU) has started creating SSL certificates for free. The only problem–their root certificate is not trusted. Maybe the could buy somebodys…I donno.
Also, this is interesting. Look at the slashdot affect on the CAcert Website: http://www.onestat.com/aspx/reports.aspx?nav=i
