NEW FOR 2020! This rare variety originated as a high altitude crop in the Himalayas, grown for making soba noodles. In Oregon, a couple hundred feet above sea level, it didn’t set much seed, but made a profusion of flowers and biomass over a long season, stunning to see, and full of every kind of pollinator species. The stems made surprisingly long lasting cut flowers of a stunning ruby pink hue. Quite distinctive. Worth experimenting with for local adaptation as a real seed crop. Has potential for high elevation agriculture.
