Oenothera ssp. Perennial and annual species (~80) widely distributed in the Americas, many night flowering, but also day flowering as well. Plants sessile to 8' tall, some weedy, but many low growing and showy. Flowers of 4 petals, commonly butter yellow, but also pure white and rose. Valuable for night pollinators, especially hawkmoths. O. biennis (rampion) has an edible root, with shoots used for salads.
